    Soyuz is operated from the Guiana Space Centre, Europe’s spaceport. Like Ariane and Vega, launcher elements are shipped to Kourou in containers aboard the MN Toucan and MN Colibri. The only difference is their departure point, from Saint Petersburg in Russia. A Soyuz launch campaign lasts one to two months. Each phase is described below.

This traditional gathering provided the opportunity to review a year of historic successes for CNES and to present the agency’s strategy and challenges for 2015, a year in which the focus will be on climate in the lead-up to the COP 21 global climate summit in Paris in December.

  11. Cryosat-2 ready to embark on ice mission

    ESA’s Cryosat-2 satellite is set to embark on its mission above Earth’s poles on 25 February. With its altimeter, aided by the DORIS instrument, it will monitor variations in ice elevation and thickness with millimetre accuracy.
