  2. CNES celebrates 50th anniversary of first French-Russian space cooperation agreement

    30 June 1966, France and the Soviet Union signed a first cooperation agreement on the exploration and peaceful uses of outer space. Over the last 50 years, the two countries have worked together on many emblematic programmes in the fields of science, human spaceflight and launch vehicles, forging true industrial ties in the process.

    Monday 20 June in Moscow saw the opening of the exhibition on “50 years of French-Russian space cooperation” at the Memorial Museum of Cosmonautics. In attendance at this ceremony were the museum’s Director Natalia Artioukhina, Roscosmos Deputy Head Michail N. Khailov, Frédéric Mondoloni, Minister-Advisor at the French Embassy in Russia, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall and numerous representatives of the Russian space community.

    Monday 18 April, CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall met Igor Komarov, Head of Roscosmos, the Russian federal space agency, in Moscow to review progress of current and future projects the two agencies are pursuing together and highlight the events that will be marking 50 years of space cooperation between France and Russia throughout the year.
