    Every year in March, the International Astronautical Federation (IAF) organizes its Spring Meetings in Paris. This year, they are being held from 26 to 28 March at the New Cap Conference Centre in the capital’s 15th arrondissement. Over three days, the IAF’s Technical and Administrative Committees are meeting to review progress with ongoing projects, while the International Programme Committee is selecting presentations for the International Astronautical Congress (IAC), the 70th edition of which will be held later this year in Washington D.C. This event will coincide with celebrations around the world marking the 50th anniversary of man’s first step on the Moon.

    Since 7 June 2010, the Paris Observatory and Côte d’Azur Observatory have been firing lasers into space—more specifically at the T2L2 instrument on the Jason-2 satellite. The purpose of this experiment, coordinated by CNES, is to synchronize two remote clocks with unprecedented levels of precision.
